The club can now officially confirm the permanent transfer of goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni to Angers.

The Girondins de Bordeaux can now confirm that Paul Bernardoni has joined Angers SCO (L1) on a permanent basis, with all of the necessary paperwork already completed by both parties.

Paul rose through the ranks at the Troyes Academy after earlier spells with local sides AS Lieusaint and ESA Linas-Montlhéry. He turned professional with Troyes in 2014, making his first team debut against Clermont. A debut appearance which earned him a league winner's medal when Troyes became Ligue 2 champions.

Troyes were promoted to the top flight and Paul became a regular performer, playing 14 games and drawing attention from bigger clubs, including Bordeaux. He joined the Girondins that winter as cover for the injured Cédric Carrasso, making seven top flight appearances for the Girondins.

Facing stiff competition in the 2016-2017 season, Paul demonstrated his professionalism by continuing to train diligently despite playing rarely.

His time to shine came in 2017-2018, when he was sent out on loan to Clermont (L2). He played a full season in Ligue 2 (38 matches) and demonstrated his immense qualities. He was instrumental in Clermont's 6th place finish that season, a performance which caught the eye of recently-promoted Nîmes.

For the past two seasons, Paul has been a fixture of Ligue 1 between the posts for the "Crocodiles." Nîmes have managed to maintain their top-flight status, thanks in no small part to Bernardoni's prowess on the goal line. He featured in 63 of Nîmes' 66 league matches, making him one of the club's most dependable performers.

Paul has now played 127 professional matches, including 84 in L1. He is also an experienced international, with 50 caps for the French youth sides and European U19 champion's medal to his name.

Paul certainly made a very good impression here in Bordeaux. A calm, friendly presence, he is nonetheless a fierce competitor and an exemplary professional. Everybody at the club wishes him all the very best for this next phase in his career and his life.
